PDFPrintE-mail

16357889The Intercollegiate Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) is a professional qualification held by surgeons who have completed training at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, Ireland, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The qualification exam is given at the conclusion of Basic Surgical Training.

The MRCS examination is separated into three levels. Level 1 tests a fundamental level of knowledge of the basic sciences and is an elementary examination. Level 2 tests a deeper knowledge that requires a working knowledge of pathophysiology. Level 3 requires detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and diagnostic acumen.

163578892The basic sciences that are covered on the MRCS examination include anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Fundamental principles of surgery are essential, along with working knowledge of various surgical specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma surgery, urology, and general surgery. Basic communication skills and medical ethics are also tested.

In recent years, an 88 page syllabus has been published by the committee on the intercollegiate MRCS examination. This is a nearly exhaustive list of concepts and topics that can be found on any of the three levels of the MRCS.

Our comprehensive, multidisciplinary review course is a solution for candidates for the MRCS licensure process to complete their studying in an efficient and productive manner. Our review course is developed by practicing surgeons in the United Kingdom and United States, and is the culmination of over a decade of development and innovation. With our significant experience in mentoring surgical candidates in the United States, we have now developed a high-yield review course for all three levels of the MRCS.
